On ‘The Second Woman’
The Second Woman has been heralded as ‘one of the finest examples of independent Australian theatre in years’ (The Guardian). Conceived for Next Wave in 2016 by an all-female-identifying and non-binary team, the work has toured around Australia and internationally, including to New York, London, Toronto and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It has been performed by Nat as well as renowned international actors including Alia Shawkat, Ruth Wilson, Laara Sadiq and Zhu Zhi-Ying.
In this keynote lecture, Nat will reflect on the development of this binge-worthy spectacle – from its inception as part of Next Wave’s program to the global phenomenon it has become since 2016. Riffing on concepts of preservation, iteration and integration, Nat will share her perspectives and unpack this relentless performance of gendered power. Don’t worry, it won’t go for a full 24 hours.
