PICA Lab documentary

This video is intended as an educational resource for students wishing to gain more insight into collaboration, intercultural projects and what artists need to develop and make work.

The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts’ three-year partnership with Creative Australia brought together artists from Australia, South Asia and Southeast Asia for the Interdisciplinary Lab – a series of facilitated discussions and practice-sharing workshops.

These activities took place online and through a week-long residency at Garambi Baanj (Laughing Waters) Cultural Precinct, operated by InPlace in partnership with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, located in outer Narrm/Melbourne in Eltham on the Yarra River.

The residency concluded with several days in inner-city Melbourne where the artists were hosted by Next Wave at Brunswick Mechanics Institute.

During this time, the artists continued their conversations, visited various cultural institutions and attended meetings with organisations to assist with their professional development.

To conclude the Interdisciplinary Lab, PICA partnered with the artists, Next Wave and Fancy Films on a short documentary that shares the group’s reflections on the nature of interdisciplinary practice and exchange.
